Revolution vs Advocate Expert's CommentsAdvocate is just as effective as Revolution (Stronghold) at controlling fleas and preventing heartworm, but if your dog swims a lot, or you bath him more than once a fortnight, the flea control component may not last the full month. Revolution also has an effect against some of the gastro-intestinal worms which Advocate does not cover, therefore you will need to give an allwormer tablet such as the Drontal or Popantel every 3 months if using Advocate. Revolution vs Advocate - Customers' FeedbackHas anyone ever used Revolution or Advocate for Heartworm and Fleas? Is it effective? Any problems you have found with these products? Advocate is similar to Revolution - a "spot on" type application like Frontline. I have used Advocate since it came on the market, no problems other than the foul smell for a few hours. It does exactly what it says on the tin and has caused no reactions in my dogs skin. Revolution is not as effective for larger dogs as some of the other products on the market (for heartworms) It works fine for felines and small dogs. I still recommend interceptor/frontline, it gives a good broad coverage for most parasites, internal and external. If you give her all-wormer tablets, there's no need for Revolution, you can just use Frontline, these are the cheapest of the decent ones. Revolution does not treat tapeworms remember, so a tablet is better for complete worming. If you want to switch to one of the more complete spot-ons, Revolution is cheaper than Advocate and it is good. I used Revolution twice on my cats and gave it away as a waste of money - they still had worms and they still had fleas. Tried Comfortis and had much better success.
